It’s About Empowering Your Feeding Journey
Emily Maize, IBCLC
Like many in this field, my path to becoming an IBCLC began with my own experience as a parent. I struggled with nursing in the early days with my first child, and the more I opened up about it, the more I heard from others who had faced similar challenges. Over time, I found my way to a rewarding and fulfilling experience breastfeeding, but that journey planted a seed. I wanted to talk about this more, to support others, and to help more parents reach their feeding goals—whatever those may be.
I began by teaching birth classes and went on to study human lactation at Portland State University. I not only received in-depth education on the complexities of lactation, but obtained clinical practice, working under amazing mentors with years of experience and a wealth of knowledge. I am so grateful for all they shared with me and honored to bring those skills into my practice. I became a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) in 2024, while working with families at The Corvallis Birth & Wellness Center. I am now looking forward to expanding my own practice and bringing my passion to the community.
I am born and raised in Oregon, currently living in Corvallis with my amazing supportive partner and my 3 wonderful boys. When I’m not playing with them, I’m pouring my time into the joy I’ve found in helping families thrive. That or picking weeds in a garden somewhere….

A lactation consultant is a trained professional who supports parents with infant feeding—from learning to latch and establishing milk supply to navigating pumping, bottle feeding, formula use, or any combination of these.
In the whirlwind of the prenatal and immediate postpartum period, families often interact with a range of healthcare providers—some focused on the birthing parent, others on the baby. A lactation consultant holds a unique role by caring for both of you together—not as two separate patients, but as a dyad. Feeding is not just a task; it’s a relationship. My job is to support and honor that relationship, because how you feed your baby isn’t just about nutrition—it’s about connection, confidence, and finding a rhythm that works for both of you.
As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), I hold the highest level of certification in this field, requiring extensive clinical training, education, and a rigorous board exam. This means I’m equipped to support you through simple questions or more complex feeding challenges. Whether you're preparing during pregnancy or facing unexpected struggles postpartum, you're not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. I'm here to help you feed your baby in the way that feels right for you.
